Something Old, Something New

It was introduced rather quietly and it could have been very easily ignored. For that reason, I'd like to bring it to your attention.

As our committee moved to a unanimous adoption of the resolution, there was a palpable sense that we all desired our church to wrestle with this challenge. This was the motion offered by Jim Couchenour Sr.:

Faith: The Ultimate Goal

As director of Marketing and Creative Services for the Carolina Hurricanes, Howard Sadel has had the privilege of being part of a Stanley Cup-winning hockey team. An Unfinished Life

Friday, January 20, 2006, was a leisurely morning for my husband Matt and me—just as so many we had enjoyed through the years. We sat in front of the bay window enjoying the blessings of companionship. He drank his morning coffee while I sipped my tea.

Your Kingdom Come

When our family received a call from God to plant a church in Latvia, one of the Baltic countries, we decided to immerse ourselves in that culture. One way to go through an adaptation is to memorize something in a foreign language that you already know by heart in your mother tongue.

Therefore, we started to recite the Lord’s Prayer in Latvian. This became our new spiritual exercise, which made us think of our mission on a deeper level. The new language refreshed our understanding of this familiar prayer and clarified a vision for our ministry.

Grace Land in Memphis

I can't hear the words "in the ghetto" without mimicking the King of Rock, Elvis Presley, who crooned the lament of a juvenile gunned down in the ghetto. In Memphis, more than 750,000 visitors a year plop down $27 (U.S.) to enter Elvis's Graceland mansion. They are hustled through the Jungle Room, the Meditation Garden (where Elvis's remains lie), the Automobile Museum, and by a wall where fans scribble messages to the "King." How commercialism turns mortals into idols! The National Civil Rights Museum is also in Memphis.
