Marriage Initiative Goes Global

Twenty couples representing the Belize District gathered near San Ignacio, Belize, to receive training in Nazarene Marriage Enrichment Small Group Leadership. Under the direction of Jim and Jeanette Pettitt, a mixture of clergy and lay couples studied small group leadership skills, and shared in the Marriage Enrichment experience. After three days of intensive study and experiential learning, they left the district campgrounds determined to bring the marriages in their churches under the umbrella of Christian discipleship.

This experience began when Anita Tzib, wife of District Superintendent John Tzib, attended a marriage workshop at the 2005 General Assembly. She came away believing God wanted her to bring Marriage Enrichment to Belize. After much prayer and planning with the Marriage and Family Ministries office, her dream became a reality in May. Couples from churches across the Belize District received tools to teach others how to build strong and God-centered marriages. The training event ended with a session on the lordship of Christ and a moving communion service, during which each couple committed to that lordship in their marriage relationship.

It is the hope of Marriage and Family Ministries that this event in Belize will begin a global recognition of the need for building strong marriages to counter the weakening of marriage and family values in our world today.
