Who is the Holy Spirit?

Excerpt from an article originally published in the Herald of Holiness, May 10, 1972.

Learning to Live in God''s Grace

I have loved music for as long as I can remember. I started playing guitar at age 15 and began performing at local venues in Tennessee by 16. By my late teens, I was writing and recording music.

I desperately wanted to write music for the church, but I had yet to hear any worship music that made me think I could write for that genre. The most contemporary worship music I had heard in the church up to that point didn’t exactly set my world on fire.

Welcome

Birthed as a movement of God’s Holy Spirit, the Church of the Nazarene has always been a sending church. Tonight we welcome you to the 96th General Board of the Church of the Nazarene to once again embrace our roots as a people sent— sent to preach scriptural holiness around the world. We come to reflect on the reality of Dr. Phineas Bresee’s dream that “the sun never sets on the Church of the Nazarene.”

Sanctification — A Comprehensive Provision

The New Testament teaches that the Kingdom of grace can comprehensively reign in God's children. Terms such as wholeness, completeness, thoroughness, and soundness describe the reign of grace in the life of a Christian. One excellent illustration occurs in Paul's first letter to the Thessalonian Christians. The apostle prayed that "the God of peace" would "sanctify [them] wholly" (5:23, RSV, emphasis added).
